Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a custom workshop shed cost in Charlotte?+
Workshop and garage sheds start around $9,000 for a 12×16 with a roll-up door and range up to $20,000+ for larger builds with multiple doors, electrical, insulation, and interior finish. Concrete slab work is coordinated separately. We provide a detailed estimate covering structure, options, and site-specific factors.
Can you build on a concrete slab?+
Yes. We can build on an existing concrete slab or coordinate slab pouring with a concrete contractor before our build. For new slabs, we provide anchor bolt layout specifications so the slab is poured with our framing dimensions in mind. Building on a slab gives you a clean, level, durable floor ideal for workshops and vehicle storage.
What size roll-up door can you install?+
We install standard 8-foot and 9-foot wide roll-up doors, which accommodate most riding mowers, ATVs, motorcycles, and compact vehicles. For full-size vehicle access, we can frame openings for 10-foot overhead doors. Door height is typically 7 feet, adjustable based on your needs.
Do I need a permit for a workshop shed this size?+
Yes. Any structure over 144 sq ft in Charlotte/Mecklenburg County requires a building permit. Our workshop builds all exceed this threshold. We provide permit-ready drawings and help coordinate the application process. Note: total project cost must stay under $40,000 to avoid NC general contractor licensing requirements.
Can you run 220V for power tools?+
We rough in the electrical conduit and boxes for 220V circuits as part of the build. A licensed electrician completes the final wiring and connects to your home's panel. We coordinate with electricians in our network to streamline the process. 220V circuits are essential for table saws, welders, air compressors, and other heavy workshop equipment.
