Not exactly. A studio shed is an outbuilding without full plumbing (no kitchen, no bathroom). An ADU (accessory dwelling unit) is a self-contained living unit with kitchen, bathroom, sleeping area, and separate entrance. NC Senate Bill 495 now requires municipalities to allow ADUs, and Charlotte caps detached ADUs at 800 heated square feet. A studio shed can serve as a stepping stone — we build the structural shell that could later be converted to an ADU with plumbing and kitchen additions, pending permits.

In Charlotte/Mecklenburg County, any structure over 144 square feet typically requires a building permit. Since most studio sheds are 10×12 (120 sq ft) or larger, you'll likely need a permit.
